Since Alberta is home to two of the biggest cities in Canada cheap flights to Alberta are always easy to find.
Alberta had an estimated population of 3,700,000 people in 2010 making it the most populated of the prairie provinces. Alberta is totally land locked with British Columbia to the west, Saskatchewan to the east, Northwest Territories up north above it, and the U.S. below it.
The capital city of Alberta is Edmonton located close to the center of the province and mines most of Canada’s oil sands and other northern resource industries. Approximately 300 kilometers south of the capital is Calgary, Alberta’s largest city and a major distribution and transportation hub. Both Edmonton and Calgary have over 1,000,000 residents.
Alberta was named after the Princess Louise Caroline Alberta who lived from 1848–1939. She was the fourth daughter of Prince Albert and Queen Victoria. Princess Louise Alberta was married to the Marquess of Lorne who was also the Governor General of Canada (1878-1883). The Village of Caroline, Lake Louise and Mount Alberta were all named in honour of the popular Princess Louise.
